Tie Dye

I’ve been planning to do some tye dying, to spice up the otherwise rather dull selection of babyclothes available. I ordered some plain white bodysuits with short and long sleeves from John lewis and some Dylon fabric dye for use in the washing machine, blue and purple. Today the bodysuits arrived and I started dying :)

First I washed the bodysuits, then I tied them in various interesting ways using cable clip thingys, as I didn’t have enough rubber bands.

All tied up

The purple batch got done first, so two washes and a couple of hours later, this is what came out^^

And the blue ones:

At least they’re not boring :P

News

Wow, it’s been a long time since I’ve updated this! A lot has happened, the biggest news being that I’m now pregnant. 24 weeks, due on May 3rd. It’s apparently a girl, and I’m having name trouble. Any suggestions?
The boat fixing thing seems to have been put on hold for a while, my fingers are itching a bit to get back to it. But, other stuff is going on so to aid my itching fingers I’ve started knitting instead. All babystuff, 1 pair of booties, 1 pair of Mary Janes, 1 pair of mittens, 1 pixie hat and a dress so far. I guess I’ve got the nesting thing, or I’m just turning into a Granny.
By the way, it’s not actually horrible pink like it looks on the pictures, the colours just went funny because of the flash. It’s really quite purple .

I’ve also had a birthday since last time, I’m now on my last year as a teenager.. Eeek!
I went to Norway to celebrate with pizza at Jonas B, the best pizzaplace ever. It was nice to see everyone again, although a bit of a bother to have to travel to Stavanger because they shut down the Kristiansand flight for the winter.

Christmas was good, my mum, dad and brother came over from Norway and Denmark and we celebrated on the boat, with stuffed roasted goose and a tiny christmas tree with real candles. I got a 1:12 model Volkswagen samba bus! I love it. It is so beautiful. And it matches the Lavalamp I got for my birthday:)

Oh, and check out my photo that was chosen to be in this years schmap guide! (look up Cafe Slavia) :)

Arrrh…

So, I’m in England, living on a boat, fixing boats, reading about boats, talking about boats and in general being a boat person. It’s loads of fun!

Cromarty is great, I’ve put up my posters and my little fat green man has found a home in the windowsill. Empty Grolsch bottles are used as decorations, instruments of all shapes and sizes and sounds are floating around, there’s a stereo and a fridge and a washing machine and cow pots and a gas stove and a copper kettle that sings when it boils and in general all I could wish for. I like it!

I even got tools. My own screwdriver set, a hammer, an adjustable wrench, drill bits and screwdriver bits, a sliding bevel, a square, a hot air gun and very soon a new drill. My new favourite shop is Elmer’s Hardware, and I’m wearing filthy work trousers and boots all the time. And I make elderflower champagne, even though it’s the wrong season for elderflowers.

This is the view from Cromarty:

I don’t think I’ll update this blog very often from now on, as we have a boat blog where things will happen instead…

London Calling

Tomorrow I leave. It’s weird. I’m really looking forward to it, but at the same time it’s a bit scary to think of… I’ll actually move to England, not just stay a while. Surreal!

For the past two weeks I’ve been staying in Odiz’s apartment in Kristiansand, and it’s been okay, although a bit boring sometimes… I’ve been burning cd’s, eating loads of pasta with ketchup, watched billions of films (Barbarella!) and read four books… Fun :P

Away, Away, Away…

So, in 4 days I’m moving to Kristiansand, borrowing Odiz‘ apartment. And then on the 12th of August to England. Who knows for how long… First of all I’ll fix up my boat, but who knows what will happen after that. I might stay there for good! It’s all terribly exciting.

I’m really looking forward to doing some work on Bloody Nora, or just to SEE her for that matter! It’s kind of crazy to own a boat that you’ve never even seen. At the same time of course Fruitcake will fix up his boat Melody. She’s a counterstern and will need a lot more work than my one, but she looks nice.. Yum yum.

I might be living on a barge called Cromarty. How much fun is that?

Memories

Everything is different
Nothing remains
Even beauty crumble

Reveals my twisted identity

Yep, I now own a boat. How Amazingly weird and whacky is that.
And best of all, it was totally free! Apparently the previous owner was drunk and fell into the river and drowned last Christmas and since then she’s just been sitting there, gathering dust. Of course she needs some fixing up, but that was my plan anyway… :)

Her name is “Bloody Nora”, she was built by Frank Knight in 1936 for the vicar of Waldringfield. She’s about twenty feet, needs load of work but is basically sound. She has a few cracked ribs, but the planking seems good, although it needs a lot of caulking and she is bare inside. She comes with a full gaff rig in good condition, an 8 foot dinghy, a diesel engine currently in pieces, and possibly a stock of timber!

At the same time Fruitcake got me Bloody Nora, he also got another one for himself, which also was totally free. She’s called Melody.

I Love My Boat.

Silence

Silence fell
And shattered as it hit the ground
A soft rejection
Unnoticed
But for the scattered pieces at my feet

So, I’m back in Mandal, which is partly nice and partly miserable. It’s nice because I can just relax and there is no stress to do anything, it’s miserable because there’s nothing to do even if I want to. And it’s terribly uninspiring. My brother and his girlfriend and their 2 cats have moved into this house, so it’s quite full up at the moment..

I started working at Café the 4 Seasons, once or twice a week and then more often in July. It’s busy, but fun! And I can actually make enough money to go to festivals and stuff. I might also paint a house and get even richer!

I don’t really have many plans for this summer, the only thing so far is Slottsfjell Festival 19th – 21st of July. I was there last year, and it was amazing. I think I might make a tradition of it!

Not quite sure what I’m doing here yet, but I’m sure it will become obvious at some point…
